Education, career choice and professional development of Gurung (Tamu) youth and young professionals.

Objectives

TECANET is a platform for Tamu students and professionals with the following objectives:

  • To support Tamu and indigenous students as well as young professionals in their studies and professional career development.
  • To establish networking among Tamu and indigenous students, youth, professionals from within Nepal and abroad, in order to promote exchange of experiences, expertise and learning.
  • To conduct studies and advocate about the fundamental rights of the Tamu and indigenous people for the access, rights and ownership of natural resources.
  • To empower the Tamu, indigenous and other marginalized population through research and dissemination of such findings on their socioeconomic and cultural aspects.
  • To promote networking and coordination with other partner organizations.
  • To publish TECANET bulletins and publications.
  • To accept grants and donations from national and international organizations with the permission of the Government of Nepal in order to support the running of TECANET activities and programmes.

Forthcoming Events

Dear all,

TECANET is organizing TECANET monthly interaction program [TMIP] on coming Saturday, 28 November 2009 to exchange and explore ideas and vision. Invited to speak are Entrepreneur, Mr. Min Bahadur Gurung, Proprietor of the Bhat Bhateni Supermarket and Mr. Jit Gurung, Human Resources Officer, UNDP, East Timor. We cordially invite all Tamu youth, students and interested people to this interaction programme.

Min Bahadur Gurung, Proprietor, Bhatbhateni Supermarket

Time: 12:00 noon - 02:00 pm

Min Bahadur Gurung, Proprietor of the Bhatbhateni Supermarket from the remote village in Khotang started his venture with $1135 opening a small grocery store and now he is a multimillionaire with retail super market chains ‘Bhatbhateni’ in Nepal. He hires about 900 people right now and is planning on employing about 50,000 people directly in retail and agriculture business. source: www.e4nepal.com

Mr. Jit Gurung, Human Resources Officer, East Timor

Jit Gurung, PhD candidate from Coventry University is from a village called Tang Ting (previously Lamjung but Naya Kaski since 2032 BS). He joined British Army as a clerk in 1984. Having served 22 years, he left the army in 2006 and joined in the United Nations as Human Resource Officer currently based in East Timor since July 2007.
